Today is Memorial Day in America. I don’t believe I have ever been stateside for this holiday but it is one of my favorite “holidays”. It is a day that I believe the whole world should honor and thank America. It is a day we remember those who have fallen standing for something.
Memorial Day for me always brings many mixed emotions. Firstly there is the pain when I see pictures of places like Arlington National Cemetery where I see row upon row of markers where I know real heroes are now resting. I feel frustration every day that I cannot be in your country because I am desperate to serve it, however on Memorial Day that frustration is increased because I would love nothing more than to thank Veterans personally and the families and friends of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and try comfort them.Ā I feel anger at times especially in recent years at how society treats your veterans – everything from the ongoing VA scandal, to Fort Hood being called “workplace violence”, to the closing of the war memorials to the lack of respect shown to them in the street.
Today is not a day for a BBQ, or getting drunk, or even spending it with family. Today is a day we remember the true heroes who fought and paid the highest price for building and defending America. Today is a day the American say thank you because as Sarah Palin puts it – If you love freedom, thank a VET!!! Well my line to the whole world is simple – If you live in modern day Europe and don’t speak German, thank a US Vet. I thank and salute every Veteran everyday, but today I give a special salute to those who have passed. THANK YOU!!!
Lastly I am always inspired by this day. I am inspired by the history of your great nation, that there have been members of EVERY American generation willing to stand and do what is right. I am inspired because I am reminded on this special day everything those brave men and women stood for but also overcame. I am inspired and dream of being able to stand with this American generation, stand for the principles your nation was founded on and stand for love, freedom and liberty for all. I know America can and will win this war and I look forward to playing my minor role. God Bless each of you and God Bless America!
P.S. I wanted to share one of my favorite videos with you. Enjoy š
Today is a day to pause and reflect. To honor those who gave their lives so that others can enjoy their freedoms.
Amen! #ThankAVet
Sergeant Ryan Pitts (Medal of Honor recipient) said”Courage is not the absence of fear- it’s the ability to move forward in the face of it.” Thank you for your exactly perfect comments on this sacred Memorial Day. There is a section of this country that knows/understands/ has lost courageous Patriots and continues to believe that this is the hope freedom-wise for this world. We so appreciate and are honored by your
support and love.
