Last week Sarah Palin made the news and outraged liberals by equating the US National Debt to slavery (links below) and received the typical liberal response – ignore the actual issue and attack. The media conveyed shock, outrage, called her a racist and stupid and Martin Bashir said someone should defecate in Palin’s mouth. Sarah Palin needs NO defending but it sure would be nice if people on the right stood beside her and walked the path with her. Just imagine if some “right-winger” said the same about Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi or even Michelle Obama. It’s time to unite and stand for principles. I want to break this down into three main sections and respond to each.
Martin Bashir & MSNBC:
What Bashir said highlights something very important about him and the company he works for – MSNBC. Firstly Bashir you are a PUNK. Your comments were a total disgrace, but I believe they sum you up perfectly as a man. Nothing says I am a tough guy more than insulting a woman who is a mother and a grandmother, especially when she was not present to respond or defend herself. If you should feel the need to use a sick and distasteful analogy, please be a man and do it against someone who can respond in kind. However MSNBC is more interesting. Every company has a set of rules and with this attack we got a further glimpse of the rules within MSNBC. So if you are Alec Baldwin and make a gay slur OUTSIDE A COURTROOM, your show gets cancelled for 2 weeks, however if you are Martin Bashir, make those pre-meditated comments LIVE & ON AIR (and had those comments pre-screened by producers etc.) you suffer no consequence.
Slavery & Racism
I hope everyone who reads my columns know how much I love America and that I think it is the greatest country in the world. However while it is the greatest, it is not perfect. One thing I see in some Americans that really irks me is the fact that some talk like the World started when America was created. IT DID NOT. Slavery is not just an American issue, nor is it a black issue – it is a human issue that has been ongoing for centuries. While it is impossible to identify a point in history when slavery started, there are accounts of slavery as early as the 18th Century BC in Babylon, nearly 3,500 years before the founding of America. Slavery has been a part of many civilizations including Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome and all the way through the middle ages. If you listen to that crazy right wing President in America right now, slavery still exists today. Yes Barack Obama said at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2012, “I’m talking about the injustice, the outrage, of human trafficking, which must be called by its true name — modern slavery.” So what is the real live definition of slavery? Here are two definitions of slavery:
Firstly from Collins English Dictionary:
The state or condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his life, liberty, and fortune
Secondly from a charity called Not for Sale:
Slavery occurs when one person completely controls another person, using violence or the threat of violence, to maintain that control, exploits them economically and they cannot walk away.
Does anything in these 2 definitions or what POTUS said mention a race??? NOPE. POTUS was 100% right when he spoke about slavery today. Slavery has been one of the greatest stains in the history of the world and has affected every generation, every religion and every race for centuries and sadly it even continues today and it is a battle we all have a responsibility to fight. Just look at those three women found in England this week having been held as slaves for over 30 years. So how can anyone talking about slavery be racist???
DEBT
So now to Palin’s comments, “It’s going to be like slavery when that note is due, we are going to be beholden to a foreign master because there is no plan coming out of Washington DC to stop the incurrence of debt”. So is Palin right? She is absolutely spot-on but I would change one word. It is not set in stone America will have a foreign master, it is possible your master could be an American citizen. So how can I say this???? BECAUSE I WITNESSED IT FIRST HAND. If you ask the typical Irish person, they will tell you they are ruled by Europe. Irish politicians have sold the Irish people’s sovereignty to Europe for roads and bridges for decades with more and more decisions taken in Europe every day. However let’s talk about debt. When Ireland suffered economic collapse and banking problems in 2008, Ireland had to receive a bailout of €80+ billion from the EU / IMF. In order to receive this money Ireland had to agree to terms and conditions including deficit reduction targets. In addition, Ireland would have to present its books to members of the Troika every 3 months for examination. Ireland effectively was a slave to the EU and IMF and in turn made the Irish people slaves to the government.
Over the past 5 plus years, people have given up more and more of the liberty and seen taxes increased and new taxes have been created. Ireland will leave the bailout program in a couple of weeks but that does not mean Ireland is free. It will still receive visits from the Troika to examine the books and Finance Ministers of Europe can still raise issues about Ireland. I could go on but I don’t want to bore you with Ireland (also I don’t know enough individual policies of Ireland to discuss in detail) but these are the impacts for €80 Billion or around $100 Billion. Can you imagine the consequences for America and the American people who have a debt 170 times that currently sitting at $17 Trillion AND GROWING!
My advice is simple. It is time for the AMERICAN PEOPLE to rise up and solve the problems of your magnificent country not only for you and your family but for future generations. If you do not, someone else will DICTATE to you how to run your country and there will be no discussion about your rights, your feelings or as the Borg said in Star Trek, “Resistance is futile”. The ball is in your court America, what are you going to do????
