The Role of a Politician After Serving in Congress!

According to the vast majority of polls, between 6 % and 10% of the American people approve of the job that Congress is doing and many are calling for major reforms. One aspect of reform that seems to be gaining momentum is limiting the amount of time members of Congress can serve in both the House and the Senate. America’s Founding Fathers were very clear in how they viewed life-long politicians whether it was George Washington saying “The people must remain ever vigilant against tyrants masquerading as public servants”, to James Madison saying “The security intended to the general liberty consists in the frequent election and in the rotation of the members of Congress” or to Thomas Jefferson when he said “ My reason for fixing them in office for a term of years, rather than for life, was that they might have an idea that they were at a certain period to return into the mass of the people and become the governed instead of the governors which might still keep alive that regard to the public good that otherwise they might perhaps be induced by their independence to forget”.

Today when I speak to people about term limits I always get asked the same question in one form or another – what about good representatives like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul or Louie Gohmert? Why would you want to limit the impact good representatives could make? There are many answers to this question but I want to focus on only one part. I truly believe in the power of the private sector but also I believe in the power of the individual, and so I believe you don’t have to be in DC to make a difference. If you need proof just look at Sarah Palin – she is one of the most influential people in US politics today and yet has never served one day in DC.

America has a lot of problems to address that everyone knows about because they are in the news on a daily basis – everything from the annual deficit, to the national debt, to unemployment and jobs to the disgraceful Obamacare. However there are a lot of other problems that also need to be addressed including social security and Medicare which will go bankrupt unless dealt with properly, education and cost of college. Albert Einstein once stated, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them” and I think most would agree that DC cannot fix any of the problems facing America. DC has a long track record of constantly expanding government and believing it is the job of DC to be the solution to everyone’s problems. Instead the answers must first come from the American people and the solutions run by the private sector, where people without an agenda, without constraints and stupid regulations can fix them and put America back on solid ground and return her to former glory.

There is one man who has served in DC and is now taking on a new project that I believe is absolutely critical to the success of America. That man is Ron Paul. Ron Paul has been very outspoken on issues in the past including abolishing the fed and ending all foreign aid and wars. Regardless of your feelings of him personally I believe he is fighting a great new mission – a mission to get 25% of kids home-schooled in the future. The Progressive left has been very clever in this 100 year war on American values and has fought through educating future generations in schools and colleges to learn their values and their way of thinking.

Their aim has been very simple – to have a collective of kids who see the world the same way, who believe the same ideology and view government as the centre point of every problem at graduation. Simply put if you can control how kids are educated, you can control the minds of future generations.

Education was always an important part of how to mold a kid, but it plays a bigger part in today’s world. Where else is a kid to learn? In days gone by (especially in America) you had two other places: the home and the Church. Today around 50% of marriages end in divorce which puts pressure on the learning at home. Over the last decade attendance at Church has also reduced and for the people who still attend, a lot of pulpits have gone quiet and generally speak a lot of mush today.

So education in school is increasing in importance, but what are they teaching your kids? Do you think they are teaching them about America’s Founding, how your founders had great vision and changed the course of the world, how America is the greatest country in the world, about your Constitution and Bill of Rights and lastly about how your rights come from your creator and NOT your government??? Or do you think they are brushing over these and condensing the bill of rights and spending more time on the New Deal and how government is your friend and you can always trust it? I personally wish Dr Paul all the best because if he is successful, America’s future will not only be brighter because of 25% of kids being home schooled and being different, but it might also pave the way for politicians who have finished their SERVICE to continue in the private sector and continue to be a force for good.
